To date, months after Typhoon Haiyan and a major earthquake have struck the Philippines, the affected communities are still struggling for their basic needs – food, water, shelter, clothing, and electricity. Communication remains a problem due to lack, and in most cases absence of power supply. SEED4Com has supported several devastated communities whose average number of households per community is around 3,000. The sources of living in these communities are mainly farming (corn, rice, copra), livestock and poultry (pigs, chicken and cattle), and fishing while the average annual income per household is estimated to be around USD 1,200.
SEED4Com, in partnership with “Project EnKindle” has deployed Class 1 (50-80 Watts) renewable energy (RE) systems in several communities for the power needs and charging facilities of communities, schools, local churches, crab farming facility, fisherfolks, women hat weavers and indigenous peoples, among others.
